The International Swimming Hall of Fame's film and video archive, which dates to the 1920's, is the most extensive and comprehensive in the world. As we continue to preserve and transfer footage from film to DVD, we will be adding to the virtual archive so that historic events from aquatic history can be enjoyed throughout the world.

1500 Meter Freestyle

The men’s Olympic final in the 1500 meter freestlye at the 1956 Olympic Games was one of the most memorable races in the history of Olympic Swimming competition.  The race featured three of the greatest distance freestylers of all time:  George Breen (USA), Murray Rose, (AUS) and Tsuyoshi Yamanaka (JPN).
