The International Swimming Hall of Fame's film and video archive, which dates to the 1920's, is the most extensive and comprehensive in the world. As we continue to preserve and transfer footage from film to DVD, we will be adding to the virtual archive so that historic events from aquatic history can be enjoyed throughout the world.

1948 Japanese National Championships.  With Japan banned from participating in the 1948 Olympic Games, the Japanese held their national championships a week after the close of the Olympic Games in London.   This clip shows hall of famers Hironoshin Furuhashi and Shiro Hashizume electrifying the Japanese nation by breaking the world record and beating the time of Olympic Champion Jimmy Lane by over 30 seconds.
