Mickey Riley (USA)

Honor Diver (1977)

The information on this page was written the year of their induction.

FOR THE RECORD:  OLYMPIC GAMES: 1928 silver (springboard), bronze (platform); 1932 gold (springboard), silver (platform); NATIONAL AAU Indoor Diving titles: 6; NATIONAL AAU Outdoor Titles: 3.

The Golden era of Southern California diving under Fred Cady featured Dutch Smith, Georgia Coleman and a couple of brothers named Riley.  Between them, they won just about every diving title in the world and the greatest showman, the most spectacular of the group was Mickey Riley. Mickey was both a platform and a springboard diver who won four Olympic medals and then became a spectacular show diver.  Mickey and his brother John won back to back platform diving championships in 1928 and 1929 just as they often tandem dived as a team.  John is here to receive the honors for his late brother, Mickey Riley (Galitzen).
