Honor Pioneer Diver (1988)

The information on this page was written the year of their induction.

FOR THE RECORD: OLYMPIC GAMES: 1920 gold (high dive); Denmark’s first gold medal winner in swimming or diving.

Stefani Clausen-Fryland was Denmark’s first gold medal winner in swimming or diving, winning the high dive in the 1920 Antwerp Olympics.  Clausen-Fryland was joined later by Hall of Famers Ragnhild Hveger, Greta Andersen and Karen Harup in the impressive array of Danish women who won gold medals in world and Olympic competition. At Clausen-Fryland’s time, divers were not awarded a degree of difficulty and the low score won.  Clausen-Fryland won easily over silver medalist Armstrong of Great Britain by a score of six points to ten points and remains as Denmark’s only diving gold medalist.
