In 1932 the Japanese made Olympic swimming a kindergarten sport including a 1500 meter gold medal by 14 year-old Kusuo Kitamura, the youngest ever men’s Olympic swim champion. Even more remarkable in the swimming youth movement was 15 year-old Yasuji Miyazaki , the youngest ever to win the Olympic 100 meter freestyle. This is the bread and butter event that designates the world’s fastest human in water. Always before and since this gold medal has gone to a much older and more mature sprint swimmer. Young Miyazaki proved his hundred was no fluke when he also raced to his second gold medal in the 200 meter leg anchoring the Japanese 800 meter freestyle relay.
